The first word Wing talked to me was“I won’t ask for your photograph if I were not going to leave Beijing”. She thought stubbornly that the community she lived was beautiful. Since she was going to leave Beijing, she wanted to take photographs as a souvenir.

Wing has another name, Xixi. She found our announcement in a minor and feminine forum. She is a sort of half native Beijing. When her parents came back to Beijing as educated youth, they settled down in suburb. Three years ago, the whole family tried to buy a house for her in east of the city. Although this house is second-handed and only 40cbm, Wing loved it.

She said if in accordance with expectation, she would be an administration staff in Shanghai after several months because of job transfer. She thought work was kind of interesting but a little bit busy; especially she often worked overtime recently. When saying this, Wind showed the same expression, neither too much cheerful, nor too much disappointed. She talked in calmly, as if the things she talked about were far away from her, or as if the things were bound to happen and couldn’t be rejected. She said she would come back to Beijing after working three years in Shanghai.

Wind thought when leaving Beijing, the house should be sold or rented. However, the tax might be higher when selling a second-handed house which was brought within 5 years. So she thought the house would be probably for rent. She said this community was quiet and with good green coverage; it was an old community with many large trees. She showed us the community and told us what’s special of each road, like doodle on the wall, several schools including kindergarten, how she got through the community when going to work and how to find bus. When she was showing us this, cars passed by and elders who sat in the shadow of trees looked us curiously.

Wind loved this community. When she showed us around, she kept telling us some stories. There was an old mall in which salesperson stand in the counter. When her boyfriend and she were both unemployed, they struggled at night and slept in day, but they were always awakened by school trumpets. She pointed the middle of a high building and a low one said,“There is a line between  these two buildings. I don’t known what’s it for?”

After she agreed, we took photos in her house. Her boyfriend was writing articles soaked with sweat. He is a media worker. She stood in the balcony and said she always stood here watching the green community. Wing sat on the floor with barefoot, wondering something or nothing. Later she took her boyfriend to photograph together. Apparently, he was a little bit nervous.

Wing likes standing on the black and yellow bars in parking position. A gentle breeze was flowing. She looked far away. She lived here for three months. She had so many stories which were known by her.

Nuannuan was the first girl we photographed.

She was also the first person to join our QQ group and ask for photographing. We met her in an afternoon of early June. I was late for the appointment. She already there and met another photographer of our group, Trolley Man. We took photos in Rending Lake. She insisted on taking photos there. She was sorry for that we couldn’t photograph in her room because her room was in disorder.

Nuannuan has been in Beijing for just a year. Like most stories, she came to Beijing with her lover after graduation, who was also her schoolmate. They went to college in Wuhan. Her major was law. Her story sounds just like most stories. They broke up after they came to Beijing. However, she said breaking up with her boyfriend was the happiest thing. She told us this story with smile, but stopped talking after that.

She said the reason they broke up was that they were incompatible in character. She also said the boy wouldn’t change his cell phone number and would wait for her call. We replied with a cruel reality that all men were unbelievable. Hearing this, she was more resolute in that the boy wouldn’t change his number. Fortunately, we didn’t ask her to call the boy’s cell phone, although we were not sure about what was going to happen. Nuannuan pointed to her head and said , I deleted his cell phone number, but it remains sharply engraved on my mind.

Nuannuan lost her job at that time, for she had a new boss but got on bad with him. So she quit the job. She thought this was a trouble. But she was happy that she was an optimist. “The manager Mr. Ma who interviewed me this morning said he’s never seen someone so optimistic before”, she said with laugh, “A negative mind doesn’t change anything. A watched kettle never boils.”

Luoyang was her home state. Nothing was so sad as to see off her father and sister who came to visit her in Beijing. She felt very sorry to say goodbye. When talking about this, she was going to cry. She felt very lonely in Beijing. She caressed obsidian bracelet round her wrist and said this was from her ex-boyfriend. It was got from a temple. They gave parents to each other then. She hoped that her ex would also wear the bracelet and not take it away.

During our photographing, she was a little bit nervous. She had a big vesicle round her lips. She thought that’s because she had a hot pot with her colleagues. She also wanted to lose some weight, for her mother didn’t think she is pretty. When we went to an internet bar to take photos from MP3, she said she fought for a toy with her friend. She thought that’s pleasing and laughed like a baby. She was pretty at that moment.
